Suggestions?

I need to come up with a contest. There is a link at the bottom of my page to a fantastic, little known, book called Jackson and Central. It is an anthology that really does have in it something for everyone. I probably wouldn't know anything about it except that I am one of the contributors.

While I have to admit, I love the two stories I have in there. I've even been approached about turning one of them into a short film (not that I have written the screenplay yet- refer to the weeks of blogs about deaths of parents and grieving for explanation of what I have been doing instead). Although when I look back at them now I see so much I would change but I don't think my stories are the best ones. So I want to offer to send out ONE copy, completely free, including shipping to anyone that can .......what? Or the first person that....?

I plan to come up with the contest by the end of this week but would love some feedback on what you have seen work other places.

  1. You know, I've tried to comment here today like, three times. I'm serious about the internet being out to get me.

Anyway, I had a contest for a giveaway once, I had the brilliant idea that I would make the person have to ask for the prize in my comments. The first one that asks (if they are in the continental U.S.) wins.

So I had a winner five minutes after I posted. I probably should have thought that out better myself.

Good luck. Oh, Goodreads is pretty good for giveaways. Don't know if you visit there much, I don't know much about how that whole process works.

  2. So many possibilities...books, gift cards, little trinkets that you find fun. In the end, everyone loves getting something free, so don't stress too much!

New follower, Found you from Blutonium's blog. :)

  3. Hey Lydia, thanks for commenting and for following. It's always nice to feel like I'm not posting into the void. I think it is my perfectionism in that I want to send the book to someone that will love it. Like shopping around for a daycare.

Rusty-Sorry you have had so many technological issues today. Maybe the machines finally read your earlier blog about them taking over. I thought about the identical contest but then since you are often the only one to comment and you contributed too, I wasn't sure how excited you would be. I also thought people like to win something for doing something. But thank you both for your thoughts.

  4. I followed you here from Rusty's blog, so hello :-)

What about Flash fiction? maybe using some words from your story? Sorry, that's all I can think of off thetop of my head.

  5. Hey Sarah,
Thanks for following. I love that idea and think I'll use the title of the anthology. After all, the words Jackson and Central could be worked into almost anything. Maybe, they will be the names of characters, hmmm. You have me thinking now.
